Detail: South-USA folk music {bluegrass, music}| uses mandolin, violin, banjo, or guitar at fast tempo. It often has improvisations as instruments take the melody in turn, as in jazz. It derived from British folk music. Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys began bluegrass [1939]. The Foggy Mountain Boys, the Stanley Brothers, and Don Reno followed. Earl Scruggs used three-finger banjo roll {Scruggs style}. Lester Flatt sang and played guitar.
